Impact

Housing Stability

Addiction Recovery Sustainability

Homelessness dooms women, children, and their children’s children, to adverse lifestyles. Without transitional programming, pregnant women who are hopeless may not be offered a chance to make a change and choose life. Statistics show that there is a need for more maternity support in the Omaha metropolitan area.  73% of women have an abortion because they can’t afford a child and 19% of women have an abortion because they are homeless.

We are prepared and equipped to serve a woman who struggles with addiction.   Upon intake, she will immediately receive a chemical dependency evaluation to determine her next steps. To enhance programming, we will focus on cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing to address issues in emotional self-control, impulsivity, and stress control to empower women with the necessary self-esteem to escape the burdens of homelessness, poverty, addiction, and the breakdown of the family.

Reduce Recidivism

An integrated set of services that are tailored to each woman’s specific situation is required. Women need help with relationship-building skills, developing trust, addiction and recovery, and a myriad of mental health conditions. In some cases, they need assistance with criminal and open child protective service cases.

Increase Income Levels and Independence

Our participants typically fall well below the poverty average.  Through individual case management, educational classes, college, vocational training, and community partnerships, we work to help each woman create a foundation for financial responsibility.  Participants receive the needed long-term programming that will continue to grow throughout her stay with us and through aftercare programming and community case management.

Improved Health and Wellness Markers

Economic stability, environment, education, nutrition and access to healthcare all impact health outcomes for our families; likewise, poor health can lead to poverty.  We are committed to helping our families navigate their healthcare options and move toward more positive outcomes.  Through education promoting better nutrition, mental health support, and connecting them to primary care and prenatal providers as well as breastfeeding support, we will positively impact outcomes in obesity, decrease long-term disabilities caused by chronic health issues, and help our families build a rapport of trust and pro-activity with their healthcare providers which will decrease their utilization of emergency care.

Increase Education Levels

To counter the effects of their unhealthy past, living in poverty, experiencing homelessness, addiction, and abandonment, our participants require educational support, vocational training, and self-esteem building. They need to master the basic life skills that will allow them to live productive healthy lives and be a responsible parent who feels connected to the community and prepared.  Addressing these barriers will lead to effective solutions and provide the necessary motivation and self-esteem to escape the burdens of homelessness, poverty, addiction, and abuse. Our curriculum will address parenting, pre and post-natal care, mental health,  health & wellness, financial education, therapy, faith formation, nutrition, and workforce training.
